Modernising Business Registers

Closed 6 Sep 2017

Technology has evolved since the Government first established its business registry services. Newer technology offers opportunities to improve the experience of registry users, simplify systems for business and achieve the Government’s open data policy objectives.

Why We Are Consulting

The Government is inviting you to consider ways to improve its business registry services.

A public discussion about modernising business registry services will help the Government identify current challenges and future opportunities.  The Government will work closely with business, community and government representatives, including state and territory governments, registry staff and end users of registry services.

The discussion paper (link below) provides more background information and a list of questions that may assist you with making a submission.

Some example questions include:

  • What do you see as the main strengths and weaknesses with existing business registry services?
  • What would you like modernised business registry services to deliver for you in the future?
  • Information confidentiality and security is paramount. Do you have a view on how security should be maintained, and/or how users can be empowered to manage permissions relating to their data held in registers?
  • Do you have a view on the steps the Government could take to make registry data more open and accessible?
