Consultation period: 27 June to 25 July
The government is convening the Roundtable to unlock new ideas and build consensus around reforms. These reforms focus on 3 priority areas for the government: productivity, economic resilience and budget sustainability.
It will be informed by the work the Productivity Commission (PC) is leading through its 5 productivity inquiries. The inquiries are guided by the government's 5-pillar productivity agenda:
Creating a more dynamic and resilient economy.
Investing in the net zero transformation.
Building a skilled and adaptable workforce.
Harnessing data and digital technology.
Delivering quality care more efficiently.

We are seeking views on priority reforms to consider as part of the Roundtable process. We are interested in ideas and proposals to:
improve productivity – for example, cutting red tape without lowering standards, leveraging technology and Artificial intelligence
build economic resilience in the face of global uncertainty – for example, attracting investment, promoting trade and security supply chains, diversifying our industrial base and building a skilled and adaptable workforce
strengthen budget sustainability – for example, options to improve the structural position of the budget and fund high-quality services and priorities.
We are inviting tax reform proposals, as part of each of these priority areas.
Ideas and proposals submitted should be:
in the national interest – rather than the interest of particular sectors or states
fiscally responsible – reform packages should be budget neutral at a minimum or potentially budget positive
specific and practical.
Submissions that have been made to the PC’s 5 productivity inquiries do not need to be resubmitted here. The PC’s work, including information gathered through submissions, will be an important part of the considerations of the roundtable.
