Unsafe products can cause injury, illness or death. They can also create significant costs for consumers, businesses and the economy.

The Australian Government is seeking feedback on ways to strengthen Australia's product safety framework under the Australian Consumer Law.

The consultation focuses on how regulators identify and address product safety risks after products are sold to consumers.

The Consultation Regulation Impact Statement seeks feedback on 9 options to:

  • improve product recalls and information sharing
  • strengthen mandatory reporting requirements
  • strengthen powers to address product safety risks
  • improve enforcement of product safety laws

This consultation is the first stage of a broader reform program. The program aims to better protect consumers from unsafe products.
