Treasury is reviewing conditions attached to existing foreign investment approvals. This is to make sure conditions continue to be effective in mitigating risks to Australia’s national interest and national security.
We are seeking feedback from investors, and other stakeholders, about conditions that may:
be ineffective
duplicate other regulatory requirements
need modernising.
Your feedback will help us:
identify opportunities for improvement
make sure conditions continue to be necessary, effective and fit for purpose.
Why we are doing this review
Conditions attached to foreign investment approvals help protect Australia’s national interest.
These conditions should remain necessary, effective and fit for purpose over time.
In the 2026–27 Budget, the Australian Government announced a package of foreign investment reforms. The package includes a review of conditions on existing foreign investment approvals. The review will identify conditions that can be updated or removed while maintaining appropriate safeguards.
