The government is introducing changes to the taxation of discretionary trusts.
A 30 per cent minimum tax will apply from 1 July 2028.
These changes aim to make the tax system fairer and more sustainable.

We are seeking feedback on key aspects of the proposed changes, including:
expanded rollover relief to support restructuring
how excess franking credits should be treated
ways to collect the minimum tax.
Background
The government announced this minimum tax in the 2026-27 Budget.
It will apply to certain discretionary trusts from 1 July 2028.
It will not apply to other types of trusts. Some types of income are also excluded.
Trusts who choose to restructure can access expanded rollover relief for 3 years from 1 July 2027.
