Give feedback on the Competition and Consumer (Industry Codes—Cash Acceptance) Regulations 2025.

It creates new mandatory industry codes for grocery and fuel retailers. This makes them accept cash, with some exemptions.

The draft regulations propose applying the mandate to in-person transactions under $500. They include an exemption for small businesses.

This follows a recent government announcement.

The government will review the mandate after 3 years.

Treasury consulted on mandating cash acceptance from 19 December 2024 –
14 February 2025.
